Gaultier offered himself to Arnault as a candidate for Dior when rumours about Gianfranco Ferre leaving circulated, and was so insulted when he was refused (Arnault made several comments in the press at the time reagrding the incompatability for Gaultier at Dior)that he launched his own haute couture line in 1997.Karl Lagerfeld is at Chanel, Fendi and Lagerfeld. He doesn't do it out of spite, he works for all three because he loves fashion; the same reason Gaultier offered to do Dior.

dont lie. Gautier never thought about dior because he was in competition another designer was at designing for dior and for its haute couture.And i dont think your moher is a long term couture client because i think your saying that to make us think you know everything about fashion

Gaultier officially started his Haute Couture line in 1997, after Galliano, who presented his first Couture for Givenchy in Spring 1996. Granted, Gaultier often brought couture elements to his ready to wear, but it was only after Bernard Arnault dismissed him as a choice for Christian Dior itself, at which Jean Paul was deeply insulted, that he launched his own Haute Couture line. However I do agree that Gaultier is A master of couture. There is not only one.

Atelier Versace produces mainly evening gowns, and the embelishment on them up close is not even comparable to Dior (my mother is a long term couture client). Dior's garments are indeed dramatic. But once the customer makes small amendments, like a longer jacket or less cinched at the waist, these clothes are indeed wearable. Gaultier's garments are just as dramatic, often more pornographic. He has no more experience with couture than Galliano, in fact Galliano did couture first (Givenchy 1996)
