Our friendly priest who lost in the 3rd war to Shirou's father started the next grail war early after his father died, in hopes that he could claim the grail for himself. He played the role of the priest to throw off suspicion that he was really after the grail. The grail appeared in each of the grail wars.

The war ended at that time, and the city was left in ruins. The events of Fate/Stay Night occur ten years after the events in Fate/Zero with Shirou's father and Saber. The grail was destroyed then, but as you seen in Fate/Stay Night, the grail war with Shirou was instigated as a grab for power by the man who lost the previous grail war, who had Gilgamesh as his servant.

The game has three routes therefore three different endings. The anime MOSTLY follows the "Fate" route in the game mixed in with a little bit from the second route.Honestly, Hollow Ataraxia isn't a 'true' sequel. It's more of a fan made thing, so that's why it doesn't work out that well in terms of a sequel.

its so confusing dammit, i finished fate stay night(anime),but i got something totally different from wikipedia.... btw, i dun see how the sequel works out =3=, its like... huh?!
