I thought Piece Of Time wasn't too bad, more on the thrashy side. Elements also wasn't too overly done. In fact I learned "Air" a few weeks ago on guitar and it really wasn't overly chaotic.

There's nothing wrong with mixing with hardcore. Some bands have done it very well such as Unearth or Shadows Fall. The problem is that it's become so popular and acceptable that people are taking it WAY too far.
