She wrote it about her dog. I remember reading that whoever wrote this song wrote it about their dog. I'm sticking to the dog story.

Interesting story but it's not true. The lead singers had nothing to due with the writing of this. Ruthann Friedman wrote this, The Association drove it to number 1 for 4 weeks, in the summer of 1967.

Noooo the song was actually about the lead singer's dog, Windy.The manager made them say it was about a woman named Windy, but it was the dog all along! The lyrics are funny to imagine a dog living it's day with this as it's theme song haha

Wikipedia says:According to rumor, the original lyrics by Ruthann Friedman were about a man, and The Association changed them to be about a woman. However, Friedman eventually admitted that it had in fact been written about her dog, who had "stormy eyes" and walked "down the streets of the city, smiling at everybody she sees..."Take from that whatever you will.
