Gen Gray, precious commandant of the USNC, once said..."there can't be an elite unit within an elite organization". Don't now if I agree with the General!

Force Recon has been around for a while like the others mentioned, however they only recently joined USSOCOM because of the funding that they were missing out on, the Marines didn't want to join USSOCOM because of the fact they thought all Marines are equally badass and didn't want to say these guys are way more special that your average Marine.

June 19th, 1957 1st Force was established; root beginnings of all Force Recon units. And, it's my belief that Recon units should remain low key...out of the publics eye. It wasn't until after years in the Corps that I heard of and eventually joined 2nd Force.

actually, force recon has been around just as long as the others, but they arnt full spec ops. marine MARSOC, the brand new marine spec ops unit, was activated in 2006, thats the new one, not force recon

You never hear about Force Recon because the Corps is a reletively new entity to USSOCOM. They just decided to get in on it in the past few years where as the other units have been around since at least vietnam so they have had time to make their mark FR has just been born really. They are still wee babies..... Killing venom spittin fire breathing door kicking babies
