Actually he was shot in 2005 and the song wasn't released until 2006. It was on their From the Cliffs EP. So, they're probably telling the truth. Dufus.

Wikipedia:In an interview for BBC Brazil, MC Lord Magrão, the band's guitar player, explained that the song title "Trains to Brazil" is a reference to the fatal incident involving the Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, who was shot by the police in a subway, and that the band's singer/keyboardist Fyfe Dangerfield composed the song in 2002 originally under the title "Life Song".

ive always loved the meaning behind this song, and the style in this version suits the lyrics far better in my opinion :]fyfes singing about the precariousness of life and how we seem to have forgotten its value "cant you live and be thankful your here" and the title is dedicated to the brazilian man shot in the london underground, an example of how quickly lives can be ended fyfe used to teach at my school :] haha
