It's partly because the first king of England was French (technically Norse but whatever[William the Conqueror in 1066 at Hastings]), and partly due to the war the erupted between france and England in 1337 over a dispute about the heir to the French throne.

Not really. Hundred Years' war was 1337-1453, and estimated time fo the figure king Arthur was based on was about 530 A.D. You are a bit off in the dates. And even in the context of the movie, it is still 300 years before the Hundred years' war.
