Abstract from Kokubo et al. (2000) We investigate the evolution of a circumterrestrial disk of debris generated by a giant impact on the earth and the characteristics of the moon accreted from the disk by using high-resolution N-body simulation. We find that in most cases the disk evolution results in the formation of a single large moon on a nearly non-inclined circular orbit outside the Roche limit, which is consistent with the previous work by Ida et al. (1997). http://yso.mtk.nao.ac.jp/~koku...

not everyone was enthusiastic about it it seems :)I wasn't either. it's a somewhat disappointing mix of a computer demo and perhaps some science. sure youtube videoquality is not great but perhaps it could have been better visualized meaning more visible. this theatrical look was a quite terrible choice and it's largely impossible to see anything happening.as for science, if there was any, I would much prefer that the simulation showed what happened rather than an arbitrary text screen

you know they say that the earths core is there becouse of a great impact of an object that contained that metal core? maby this planet when it hit earth had this "core"... just thinking...but a planet that sise wold not move the earth from his rotation around the sun? well not totaly dislocate it, but if so, that ment we were to close (or to far) to/from the sun before this giant impact hapend, and this halped to create life!!!

Much of the Earth's volatile material (organics, water) is thought to have been delivered through cometary impact. The Earth's greater gravity makes it a more successful comet capturer, which might account for its far greater organic material and water content relative to the Moon.

it's true. the earth and the moon have the same isotopic concentration of oxygen that indicate that there is a genetic link between them. also the moon is primordial, and it is known that the youngest rocks on the moon are the same age as the oldest rocks on earth. and there is no organic composition on the moon..therefore the theory is correct even with a few draw backs. well its the most logical explanation for now.
