Hey thanks guys for taking the time to make intelligent replies to my comments. I agree that Tool are certainly more complex than much of what we are fed from popular music (and much of the world of metal), and that complexity is something relative. I've been inspired by your comments and others to give Tool another go. I'm not holding out much hope but will try to be positive. The internet works so much better when people actually try to communicate well.

I think they're complex on several levels. Their lyrics are rather open to interpritation and better written than alot of shit we're fed today. Also they are fairly musically complex, their songs are not particularly easy to play and they were probably harder to write and arrange. I do understand that this is my opinion and that they have suckered a generation of metal fans is yours, but in the end i think it's just generally interesting and well written music.

The use of irregular time signatures, intricate lyrical dynamics (i.e. Fibonacci numbers sequenced in the lyrics of Lateralus) among other shit would befit being called "complex". But of course you already new that didn't you. "Complex" is a relative term, BTW. If anything, I'd say Tool are moderately complex.
